The council is looking at making a small but useful change to traffic restrictions on the quayside that will make things better for people cycling.

At present, at the northern end of the Swing Bridge on Sandhill there is a right turn that is buses only. The proposal is to replace the current bus only restriction with a bus gate which would allow buses and cycles to turn right.

This would mean that anybody cycling across the Swing Bridge and wanting to continue east or north into the city centre will no longer have to first turn left, merge with other traffic travelling west, then go around what is effectively a roundabout beneath the High Level Bridge before turning back east.

We think this is a welcome change.
