Dear Cllr Forbes and Cllr Ainsley

I am writing to say how pleased I am to see that you are planning to make changes to Newcastle’s streets (Chronicle, 15 May 2020) to increase safety and allow for social distancing in response to the covid-19 pandemic.

I urge you to progress quickly with implementing measures which will reallocate road space to walking, cycling and play. These measures are vital to facilitate essential travel and exercise, and will enable businesses to operate safely in the coming months as the lockdown is gradually lifted.

Best wishes
