Next year there will be elections in Newcastle that see all seats on the council up for election. This will be an important event for the city and a good opportunity to get the argument for better cycling infrastructure heard and the Cycling Campaign needs more people to help get the message out.
There are countless ways you can contribute to our mission. If you’re detail-oriented, you might enjoy reviewing planning applications or monitoring traffic regulation orders, ensuring that cycling infrastructure is thoughtfully integrated into our city’s development. Are you a natural communicator? Help us respond to consultations or provide feedback on new schemes proposed by the council or keep our social channels and website up to date. Your voice can help shape decisions that affect us all.
If you’re a people person, why not engage with our members and local councillors? Building these connections is vital to fostering a community that values cycling. Or, if you’re bursting with creativity and ideas, you could get involved in planning events that bring people together and celebrate the joy of cycling and help to show how it can make Newcastle a better place for everybody. From small initiatives to larger campaigns, fundraising to fun events, your input will make a real difference.
Joining the Newcastle Cycle Campaign isn’t just about the projects—it’s about becoming part of a friendly, supportive group united by a shared passion. Whether you can contribute a few minutes a month or a bit more, every effort will help make a difference. Together, we can create a city that prioritises safe and accessible cycling for everyone.
This year, after many years keeping our accounts in line our treasurer will be retiring from the role so we’d love to hear from anybody with some financial experience. We don’t spend a lot so it’s not a complicated role but the treasurer plays a key part in keeping the campaign going.
Similarly, our current chair woman is stepping down so if you think you could fill that role get in touch.
If you are interested and want to know more or offer support take a look at our How to Help page or get in touch at newcastle.cycling.campaign@gmail.com and one of the current committee members will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
