Campaign Training Day

CTC is currently running both the Space for Cycling and the Road Justice campaigns. This day will provide workshops on both these campaigns, boosting the voice, awareness and knowledge for safer cycling, better cities and justice systems. You will learn about how to champion and advocate improved cycling infrastructure and fight for a justice system that sends out fair and clear messages asking for a better deal for vulnerable road users including cyclists. Road Safety and Stricter Liability

We received a disappointing written reply from Mike Penning MP re: stricter liability and EDM 1393, attached below. Thanks goes to Catherine McKinnell MP who wrote to the minister, Norman Baker MP initially, on behalf of the campaign. We will forward the letter to the national groups concerned with road safety, to seek advice as we believe there are some inconsistencies in the letter. EDM1393 and stricter liability

Write to your MP to sign EDM 1393: “That this House acknowledges that many other European countries have much better cyclist and pedestrian safety records than the UK; recognises that these countries apply the principle of stricter liability to vulnerable road victims, so that drivers of vehicles that hit cyclists or pedestrians are assumed liable unless they can prove their innocence; believes that this makes drivers more aware of the vulnerability of children, cyclists and pedestrians; notes that, in contrast in UK road traffic personal injury cases, the burden of proof is on the victim to prove the other party[…]
