It’s Grow Your Tenner time again! The “double-your-donation” match-funding scheme opens at 10am on Tuesday 18 October and runs until 5pm Thursday 17 November 2016, or until the funding pot runs out – whichever comes first. Last year match-funding ran out after just 11 days and we’re expecting the same to happen again this year. So if you’d like to participate please mark your calendars now and act promptly! We will send you a wee reminder on the day, just in case.
Last year we raised an impressive £620 and this year, with your help, we want to raise even more! So how does the scheme work? GYT matches up to £10 for one-time donations and up to £10 per month for direct debit donations for 3 months (£30 max). With Gift Aid, a one-time donation of £10 made through Localgiving.com during GYT will generate £21.67.
Why do we need your financial support? Our campaign is entirely run by enthusiastic volunteers and your financial generosity. We typically spend about £1,000 a year just on essential running costs. Because we don’t charge for membership our funding model relies on your generous donations and the occasional small external grant.
How are we doing so far? John Watson, our Treasurer, gives us a brief half-year financial update:
Since March this year we have spent £670 – split between our last AGM costs, subscriptions e.g. website & Local Giving, publicity materials and travel expenses. GYT was the Campaign’s single biggest source of income last year and we put it to very good use. For example, GYT enabled us to host a visit from fellow campaigner Paul Gasson, who gave a compelling presentation at our AGM on the Waltham Forest “Mini Holland” scheme. Paul’s talk catalysed a follow-up visit to Waltham Forest by Newcastle City Council, who were able to see, first-hand the civic benefits of a comprehensive cycling infrastructure. With your generosity and through initiatives like this, GYT will enable us to build on the momentum we’ve gained in 2016 and make our voice even louder in 2017.
How will we spend your donation?
We can make your donation go a long way and will spend it wisely. Your funding will help pay for:
- Travel to meetings and events
- Books, short films, and other resources
- Expert third-party opinions to supplement and further document our own plans and proposals
This year, we would like to build our networking in the UK and further afield to amplify our message locally. And donations will continue to support our infrastructure team and political engagement.
How to donate Simply go to https://localgiving.com/charity/newcycling and make your donation. Don’t forget to register for gift aid to make your donation go even further.
