Newcastle Cycle Manifesto

Before the election, we contacted Newcastle’s councillor candidates and asked their support of the pragmatic Cycling Manifesto. It reads: 7th April 2011 A CYCLING MANIFESTO FOR NEWCASTLE We are writing to all candidates standing for election in Newcastle to introduce ourselves and seek your support for better cycling provision in Newcastle. GeoVation Challenge Bid

We have teamed up with Northumbria Uni for the GeoVation Challenge, attached below. Based on the petition survey data and a basic radial route map we would like to bring together the community and experts to make cycle corridors into the city centre so convenient that you simply feel compelled to get on your bike! Update 05.03.2011: We weren’t successful this time but the bid served as a great reminder: so many people expressed an interest in better infrastructure and continuous well-designed routes! Must be a priority…!!

Local Transport Plan

The Newcastle LTP team heard the campaign voice. Will they listen? Cycle Conference in Endinburgh

Claire and Katja attended the annual CycleNation/CTC conference which was held in Edinburgh this year. We met lots of great campaigners with fantastic ideas and inspirational input for our own local campaign. Many thanks to Spokes, one of the longest-standing cycle campaigns in the UK, for organising this year’s successful conference. How about for Newcastle to stage this event in the near future!

Safe Cycling Petition

Katja presented the safe cycling in Newcastle petition (report below) to the City Council. The petition rallied over 800 supporters and will make a real contribution to improving the experience of cycling in Newcastle’s city centre. The delivery agent is the council and we will keep a keen eye on progress of the petition’s recommendations.
