Sustrans and Newcastle City Council would like to invite residents and businesses to a public street design event to be held on Acorn Road Saturday 8th March. This will be an opportunity to look at some options that have been developed for the streets around the shopping area and to chat through the opportunities and challenges ahead. We’ll also have the results of our Acorn & St George’s Retailers Survey.
You can find them at the junction of Acorn, Larkspur and Sanderson Rd from 10am to 2pm – relocating the display boards to Jesmond Library which is open until 4:30pm.
Saturday 8th March will be a great opportunity to bring as many local people as possible down to Acorn Road to look at street design ideas and at the same time enjoy the shops and cafes.
The event will be managed by Sustrans, with displays, shopping and street design for the adults and entertainment for the kids. Although this won’t be a street trial we will make some minor changes to the street layout in order to cope with greater numbers of people than Acorn Road could normally accommodate. We expect to suspend three or four parking bays on Acorn and St Georges and are negotiating with businesses to voluntarily keep larger delivery vehicles off Acorn Road for the day and help us run a safe and fun event.
Come on down and see us on the 8th, support your local shops and help shape the future of your town centre.
