In October, we carried out our second Councillor Travel Survey. The leader and leader of the opposition replied and we are saying a massive thank you to both of them for their contributions. We wish their flock would have done the same but the overall replies are too few to analyse them in a meaningful way. We would have liked to report back to you like we did in 2010. This year only 21 out of the 78 City Councillors bothered to fill in the 1 minute survey. Compare that to 2010, when 39 Councillors responded.
It’s October, the Summer of Cycling is finished. That’s not to say cycling is! We’ve written up a report on our involvement, how our cycling members and how their bike buddies got on. Read about their stories. Below (attached). It’s not complete plain sailing. Read the report https://69c8f3.n3cdn1.secureserver.net/sites/default/files/SoC_finishLine.pdf and eager as we are, we are also throwing together a press release. It will be posted here https://newcycling.org/press-releases
Earlier this year, we pressed for a Bikes on Metro trial – although NEXUS bosses said no, at least it kick started a stakeholders’ group examining the long-standing question of whether bicycles can be carried on the TW Metro. As part of this investigation, NEXUS are surveying Metro passengers (on-train) and a wider population (off train) in order to capture the views of bike users and non-bike users [survey now closed]. We’ll keep you informed!
We’ve sent a letter (see link above) to the three main candidates for Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner. And here are their answers. In alphabetical order… with their respective twitter addresses…
