Our call for donations – Grow Your Tenner 2017

October means it’s Grow Your Tenner time again! The “double-your-donation” match-funding scheme opens at 10am on Tuesday 17 October and runs until midday on Thursday 17 November, or until the funding pot runs out – whichever comes first. Last year we raised over £1,500 and this year, with your help, we hope to raise even more! If you’d like to participate please mark Tuesday 16 October in your calendar now. However, we will remind you on the day, just in case. To donate,
simply go to https://localgiving.com/charity/newcycling and please don’t forget to register for gift aid to make your donation go even further.

So how does the scheme work? You can pledge in one of two ways, with this year’s GYT placing special emphasis on attracting long-term support.  One-off donations are always hugely appreciated, however regular donations through the direct debit scheme enable us to plan and budget much more effectively. You can either:

  • Make a one-time donation and it will be matched up to £10.

Or, achieve even greater “bang-for-your-buck” by:

  • Setting up a monthly donation and after your first six donations, the following six donations will be matched up to £10.

With Gift Aid, a one-time donation of £10 made through Localgiving.com during GYT will generate £21.67, however one-time match funding is limited to £1,000 per organisation, compared to £4,000 for regular contributions, so we really hope you will consider direct debiting!

John Watson, our Treasurer, talks about the importance of GYT:

“Thanks to you, GYT has become our single largest source of funding. It pays for basic running costs which typically amount to around £1,000 per annum. Moreover, because we don’t charge for membership, so our funding model relies on your ongoing generosity.  Funding that paid for flyers for our highly successful Kidical Mass event in July. Building on this theme and under the banner of our City4Kids initiative, we will use your donations to ensure that politicians put making Newcastle a clean, green, family-friendly cycling city at the heart of next year’s council elections.”

In addition your donation will help pay for:

  • Workshops, social evenings and our AGM
  • Travel to meetings and events
  • Books, short films, and other resources
  • Expert third-party opinions to supplement and further document our own plans and proposals
  • Subscriptions including website and LocalGiving
