This is an update from the Treasurer as we’re approaching the half year mark and an appeal for donating/fundraising. The Campaign running costs are approximately £1,000 a year; our main expenses relate to the members’ meetings, promotional materials, accommodation, resources (books, DVDs), website running costs, fees for festivals. We’re very grateful for the support of our corporate members , bringing about £200 income to support our activities.
Earlier this year, we set up an online donation facility with local giving ; this enables us to attract gift aid. So far we have received £200 in donations and gift aid and we’d like to thank all the members who have donated online – very much appreciated!
While we’ll be applying for small grants to largely cover running costs, we thought we would make you aware of what you can do to boost our funds through local giving:
First of all, from 15th October (for about a month or so) every donation up to £10 will be doubled. So if you’d like to support us financially, wait until the 15 October and make you money go even further. Don’t worry, we’ll send a reminder nearer the time.
Also, through the local giving website, you can set up your own fundraising page as a supporter. Just sign up as a supporter, create your fundraising page and select Newcastle Cycling Campaign as the Charity you’d like to sponsor. Many of us run and cycle to raise monies for big charities, so why not do it for the Newcastle Cycling Campaign? You can double your sponsorship money from the 15th October. So get planning now!!
If you wanted to go one step further than a one time donation, set up a monthly direct debit through the local giving website.
What would we do with the cash?
Right now, funding will allow us to develop information and educational materials for councillors and other key target groups regarding the cycling infrastructure. With the recent £5.6m funding for cycling infratructure in Newcastle from DfT, it’s absolutely essential to have well informed local decision-makers. That is why we want to put together an information pack for our councillors setting out key principles about quality cycling infrastructure and how to re-allocate road space for safe cycling. We need £300 to get started.
